How we work

We own the work, or we help you own it.

Two ways to work with us.

We run the work as your fractional marketing team across four stages, or advise your team while they keep execution in-house.

Most companies start with a build.

When we own it

Four stages where we own the outcome.

Every engagement starts in one of these four stages. Drag the marker and see which one sounds like your company right now. The work for that stage comes forward underneath.Every engagement starts in one of these four stages. Tap the one that sounds like your company right now to see the work for that stage.

01

Position

You're here ifTwo people on your leadership team describe the company differently, and sales writes its own version of the pitch every time. Deals go to competitors who are easier to understand.

What you are, who you're for, and why a buyer picks you over the company next to you.

  • Category definition and the claim you own.
  • Competitive teardown, vendor by vendor.
  • Message architecture and proof stack.
  • Customer and buyer interviews.
  • Packaging and pricing narrative.

The first few weeks of every build. Your leadership approves the position before anything gets built on it.

02

Build

You're here ifSomething concrete has to exist by a date. A site, a launch, a rebuild. What you would show a buyer today is out of date, and you know it before they tell you.

The concrete, dated thing that puts the position in front of the buyer.

  • Website or rebuild.
  • Search and answer-engine presence.
  • Third-party listings and reviews.
  • Sales and campaign assets.
  • Measurement in place before launch.

Fixed scope, one date. Most builds ship inside 90 days, plenty sooner. You own the result.

03

Operate

You're here ifThe site shipped and the momentum stopped. Marketing happens when somebody has a spare afternoon, and nobody senior answers for what happened this month.

Marketing runs on a calendar rather than on whoever has time, with one senior person accountable for the month.

  • Demand generation, run monthly.
  • Content and campaign execution.
  • Operational design: pipeline, reporting, accountability.
  • Vendor and agency oversight.
  • Executive counsel on standing call.

Month to month. You stay because the work is good, not because a contract says so.

04

Embedded

You're here ifMarketing landed on you and it is not your job. You need a plan, a budget and a number owned by someone, and hiring that person takes six months you do not have.

We are the marketing department. All three capabilities, continuously, and we own the number.

  • Marketing leadership inside the business.
  • Annual plan and budget ownership.
  • Hiring, briefing and managing the bench.
  • A seat in the leadership meeting.
  • Accountable to revenue.

The point where you have a marketing department without hiring one.

When you own it

Advisory. Your team keeps the work.

Advisory is a standing weekly engagement for founders and CEOs: your team keeps the work, and a senior marketer is in the room for the decisions that are yours to make. The hire, the launch, the agency, the number. We argue back, and you leave the hour with a call you can act on.

It runs alongside any of the four stages, or entirely on its own. The product is called the Sounding Board. How advisory works

Who this is for

The companies where a fractional marketing team works have four things in common, every time.

  • The buyer owns revenue. A CRO, a president, a CEO, an owner. Somebody with a number.
  • Nobody owns marketing at the moment we meet. There may be hands, an agency, even a team. Nobody senior is deciding what they work on next.
  • The entry problem is concrete and dated. A site, a launch, a rebuild, or the hole a marketing leader just left behind.
  • You came to us through somebody who knows the work, or you were already looking when you found us.

Who this is not for

We publish this so neither of us wastes a call.

  • A buyer who is a marketing manager, or a committee.
  • A small retainer with nothing to build and no plan to grow.
  • A pilot we're asked to run unpaid, or a prove-it-first arrangement.

If one of those is you, we'll say so on the first call and point you somewhere better.

When to call

Five moments when companies bring in a fractional marketing team.

  • A senior marketing leader has left.Continuity and consequential decisions suddenly sit with leadership.
  • There's a team, but nobody senior running it.Work is happening. Ownership isn't.
  • A new CRO or revenue leader arrives. The revenue system, and what reports into it, is being reconsidered.
  • Something has to ship by a date.A site, a launch, a rebuild or a market entry can't drift.
  • Funding, an acquisition or a new market.Growth creates surface area somebody has to own.
Fair questions

Three things you might be thinking.

Good, you have hands. Who decides what they work on next? We're the layer that briefs them, and if that layer doesn't exist, that's the actual problem.

Yes. We'll take positioning or an advisory arrangement on its own.

We'll also tell you what we've seen: attached to a dated build, the position gets a deadline and a place to show up. On its own it can end up as a document in a drawer. We'll recommend the build. The choice is yours.

The build is the pilot. It's scoped, it's dated, and you own the result at the end of it.

Start with the problem, not the service.

Tell us what you're weighing up, what's stuck, or what nobody has time to own. We'll tell you inside a business day whether we're the right people and where we'd start.
